Please join us in celebrating the life of Cherie Galvez through this site dedicated to her memory.

Rosario (Cherie) was born on September 16, 1950 in Manila, Philippines. On July 12, 2013, after a fifteen-month battle with lung cancer, she was freed from pain and suffering and went home to our Loving Father in heaven. For the past 25 years, she worked with Dr. Barry Simon of the Mathematics Department of Caltech. She was a well-loved figure on campus, and helped many a postdoctoral student through the rigors of completing their advanced studies in the prestigious university. Her friends in Caltech will miss her smile the most. Cherie loved to travel, enjoyed growing her own herbs and flowering plants, liked listening to songs from Broadway musicals as well as the music of Janis Ian, was a great fan of the Los Angeles Angels, was excellent at crossword puzzles, and could have won Jeopardy had she joined the show. Her sense of humor was witty, sometimes wry, but always perfectly timed. An outstanding student who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Psychology from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Cherie aspired for nothing more than to be the best wife, mother, and grandmother. With her, family always came first. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband Jun; children Dan and Michelle and their son Alex, and Jose; mother Nena; siblings Tish, Pet and Winda, Ton and Nina, Aggie and Manny Cabugao, Jet and Marife, Bingo and Nimfa, Gigi and Raffy Rapadas, Mayo, Gina and Mike Navarrete, Noel and Snowie, Tato and Joville; in-laws Noli and Grace, Oye and Helen, Evelyn and Monet del Castillo, Eleanor Galvez and Carlo Garcia, and Caroline. She was predeceased by her father Felix.
